Taiwan is an active margin where island arcs that make up the Philippines are colliding with Asia. In Taiwan the process is still on-going, giving us a rare glimpse into modern mountain building. Studying modern active margins allows us to understand the individual processes at work in the geologic past.

The MSU TECTONICS team will be begin work in collaboration with a team of sedimentologists in 2018 to investigate the role of mountain building in sediment production in active margins.

Dr. McKay will be presenting a preliminary study on this topic at the Geological Society of America Cordilleran section meeting in  Hawaii, May 23-25th, 2017. Come out and see the talk! Aloha!
